Apparition Picks Up Stewart’s Joan Jett Drama

“The Runaways” will premiere at Sundance, focuses on rock star’s early years

Director Floria Sigismondi’s Sundance 2010 feature “The Runaways” has been picked up by Apparition in a pact that was anticipated. The deal, which includes all U.S. rights, is the first theatrical collaboration between Apparition and River Road Entertainment, which produced the film with Linson Entertainment. River Road’s Bill Pohlad is also a partner in Apparition, which opened earlier this year.

The film follows two friends, Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands.
